How to evaluate us.
This page exists so that no journalist, grantmaker, university, or partner has to guess what this organization is or how it operates. If you are trying to decide whether to take us seriously, everything you need to start is here.
Standards
Four rules we hold ourselves to.
These are stated publicly because a standard nobody can check is not a standard. If you find us breaking one, that is worth telling us about.

We describe conditions, not people
Nothing we build issues a verdict about a person. Our tools report on surroundings and access; they do not diagnose, score, rank, or tell someone what they are. Internally we call this a weather report, not a report card.

We separate what exists from what is planned
Every claim on this site is marked as available now, in active production, or planned. We do not describe unbuilt things in the present tense, and where a page is unfinished it says so rather than filling the space.

Plain language leads; terminology follows
Our framework terms are precise, and precision can exclude. So human language owns every headline and introduction, and technical terms appear only where they link to their own definition. A reader should never need our vocabulary to understand what we are saying.

Least privilege by default
This public site reads only published, public content. It holds no personal, identity, or commerce data, and cannot reach it. Row-level security is active on every table in our database, and the one exception — newsletter signup — can add an address and never read one.
